Who can dominate the NFC East?
With the 2012 National Football League (NFL) regular season about to kick off, it seems the right time to look at prospects of different teams of any division based on their performance throughout the offseason, training camp and preseason campaign.
The National Football Conference (NFC) East is undoubtedly going to display an aggressive competition due to the presence of many threatening units. Some observers have even rated the NFC East as the most competitive division for the 2012 season.
Let’s take a look at the teams of the NFC East and their chances in the upcoming season.
New York Giants
They are the defending Super Bowl champions and, naturally, expectations are high. Let’s just consider the 2011 season campaign. The Green Bay Packers entered the season as the defending champions and although they were not able to win the title again, they
were the best team when the regular season ended.
Even if the Giants do not win the title again, if they display the class that the Packers had shown they are going to cause some serious troubles for other teams of the division.
Philadelphia Eagles
Before the start of the last season, Philadelphia Eagles were a “Dream Team”, but they turned out to be a nightmare.
The Eagles were very strong in the 2011 season as well, but the players were unable to perform and combine well. This time around, the Eagles got the offseason time they had been longing for. They were able to train with each other and have a seemingly strong
squad, thanks to some roster adjustments during the offseason.
Dallas Cowboys
Well, the Cowboys have been average since a long time in the NFC East. They are capable of reaching playoffs, but they succumb to pressure.
The Cowboys have a sound offensive unit and they are going to come in the 2012 season with a good defensive side, having a new defensive strategy. This adds the element of surprise, which naturally goes in favour of Cowboys. However, they will have to work
very hard if they want to qualify for the postseason this year.
Washington Redskins
After the arrival of quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) in Washington as the second overall pick of this year’s draft, all eyes are on the Redskins, who are expected to perform better than last year.
They might be able to beat the last season’s 5-11 record, but they might not become strong enough to qualify for the playoffs as they still lack talent at many other positions.
My prediction: Eagles are going to make it to the playoffs from this division. If luck goes in favour of the division, Cowboys might also qualify.
