  1. I take it that you have applied for this job because it is something you would like to do? We would all be saying we have no experience were no one to give us a chance. You have nothing to be worried about. Be honest say you have no experience but you are willing to learn and you have always wanted to work in a caring environment and as part of a team.Perhaps if you have an elderly relative in the course of conversation you could refer to this by saying something like you would hope to care for the residents as if they were your Grandma or Aunt.Do not be afraid they are not going to bite you !! There is such a shortage of good carers and it can now become a career as there are many courses you can take in your workplace. Never try to blunder your way through in fact they will probably like to have someone who has not inherited any bad habits and train you their way. Good luck. Hold your head high and be proud that you have made a start. We all have to start somewhere.

  2. Go in with light makeup, hair back, short nails with a light color polish, clean shoes, and most important, a true smile.  it is ok to tell them you are nervous about the interview.  Remember that you are not being hired to interview.

They will ask questions to find out if you are ready to work, will get along with the team, will be good to their patients, and be reliable, on time, and stay around for a while after they spend the money to train you.  Even if they don't openly ask these questions, these are the concerns that they would like answered.

If i ask you how you heard about the position, i might like to here which of my ads you saw, but I really want to know that you were looking for a job like this one and why.  If I as about what shift you would like to work, you could mention that you have reliable transportation or that your Mom is going to have the kids sleep over night so that you can work that shift.

They want to know that you will be worth the money they are going to spend, will not endanger or anger your patients, and will get along with and not cause problems with the team.  I like it when the person I'm talking to asks questions about the job and greets people and talks a little if they are taken on a meet and greet with the staff and patients.

Hope this was helpful.  Good luck

  3. For this work experience is of less importance than a caring nature, a calm placid temperament and reliability.  The last thing they want - can afford - is someone who gets a sniffle and calls in sick at a couple of hours notice.  It helps if you can show that you have an affinity for elderly people. There will be no 'trick' questions. Something that you need to be aware of is that you will almost certainly be required to study for NVQ2 in Care and you will probably have to be checked on the Police National computer and The criminal Records Bureau. This can take a while to do - during which time you are not working and not paid!
