Who can help me with this idea for a tattoo?

my grandma died last month and i want to get a tattoo to represent that she'll always be an integral part of who i am. i was thinking of getting her name (grace) on my wrist, but i have really bony wrists and it's like vein central so i am second guessing it. also, here are some latin phrases that i was considering:

transit umbra, lux permanet - shadow passes, light remains

in nubibus - in the clouds (this could be written under her name or somethaaang)

pulvis et umbra sumus - we are dust and shadow. (Horace)

per aspera ad astra - through the thorns to the stars (she died of stomach cancer, so i thought it was appropriate)

any suggestions about tasteful locations? i am kind of bony in general.

  1. A pair of open praying hands with the

word grace . Sayings phrases etc. are

not cool looking also hard to read.

Upper shoulder, calf or thigh good

    places for tat.

  2. Oh, i love the very last one, "Per aspera ad astra."

    That's beautiful.

Whenever I've seen memorial tattoos that simply say a name, I get the wrong message. I think, "Oh, a name? Must be some regrettable b/f g/f tattoo... yikes!"

If you get a name, you ought to get another symbol to make it obvious it's in memory, such as years of birth and death or something.

You could get a tattoo on your inner bicep, the soft place that is visible just above your armpit, lengthwise.

Another nice place may be across a shoulder, or down your ribs (but ribs are paiiiinful!)

You could also get it in the center of your back, between the shoulderblades, with a nice, but subtle, background.

*Make sure you check the artist's portfolio and look for the script they've done. You don't want sh*tty lettering.

I hope you have a good experience with this tattoo.

  3. I like the latin phrase 'transit ubra, lux permanet'. It's exactly what you said you were looking for. Something to show that she remains in your heart, and your life. The misfortune passed, and you found away to allow her to shine through yet. She is your guiding light yet. And her words still influence you. That alone would be good I think. Yet you could get her name above it. Or something like 'For the GRACE of God, 'transit umbra, lux permanet' . Either way, I would try to add something that she cherished. Maybe a certain flower she always grew in her garden, or an animal she collected. Her birth month flower. If my grandma passed away, I would get a hummingbird tattoo because she collects glass and porcelin hummingbirds. As for places to get a tattoo that aren't very painful...if you are skinny. I don't know where to suggest. The place on your body that has the most fatty tissue. Maybe your back, neck. Something. Good luck.

  4. those are all beautiful but heres my top two:

you could do "in nubibus" in a pretty script with a shooting star over it with her initials in it or something

    and

similar to above- "per aspera ad astra" with either a rose or a star but I wouldnt try to stick them both together cuz it'll be kinda busy looking. Id do the rose.

  5. well pain is part of the process. don't try to hide from it. just get it done

your phrases are great and very representative of your grandmother.

i suggest your foot or the curve of your hip maybe. or back of your shoulder.

if you did the last phrase you could put that on your ankle with an open rose for her and a bud for you on the stem maybe, with a few starbursts abv the flowers and around the text
