Hi I've just bought a plasma tv, the specifications said that it comes with dual HDMI Terminals, what are these terminals, or ports, for?

Secondly, I've seen some people buying HDMI cables, what are they useful for??

Please advise as I'm really confused right now.

  1. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is basically like RCA cables (red, yellow, white) except for that it can send it in high definition format, which is rated up to 1080p.

Basically, if you use a high definition cable box then you might want to use HDMI since sometimes they project in 1080i, which is one step below 1080p.

Now, there are also component cables which are rated at 720p which is a step below 1080i.

All-in-all, HDMI cables are used to feed the high definition content from a cable box, receiver, upconvert DVD player, or HD-DVD/Blu-ray player to the TV.

Whether or not you use it is up to you. If anything, you can always use component cables (Red, Blue, Green)

  2. HDMI (High def multi media interface) cables are currently the best possible connection to use for any of your equipment. The carry signal digitaly and therefore have a better quality then analog cables such as component when you are using a digital connection i.e. highdef cable, blu-ray or hd-dvd players etc. They are capable of handling any current resoloution and many cables are rated to handle future resoulutions and specs. Check with local retailers to find a specific cable to fit what ever needs you may have as they come rated in different bandwidths for differnt uses much like the internet. Currently the best cables on the market run at around 10.2 gbs (gigabytes per second) these can handle anything on the market today and any thing for a while down the road. A couple sites to check out would be monoprice.com and bluejeanscable.com they have fairly inexpensive hdmi cables that are rated very highly in shorter distances (under 6 feet) if you need a longer cable i would recommend monster cable, or tributary cables.

  3. HDMI Cables are the connections used to receive great quality picture for HDTV. They run you about 50 - 129 bucks depending on the brand. Monster Cable is usually the best one to get. A little pricy but very much worth it and it will last a long time.

  4. Use HDMI cables the quality of picture is superior to Component cables.

Also the new generation of DVD Player/Recorders are HDMI

    equipped.

Another factor is that HDMI cables although only a single cable carry both the video and audio in one cable, saving messy wiring situations an making instalations easier.

Make sure your cable box has HDMI OUTPUT and DIGITAL COAXIAL or  DIGITAL OPTICAL  in order to take full advantage of hooking up your A/V Reciever for Surround Sound.

  5. HDMI is the Acronym for (High Definition Multimedia Interface).

Yes: It can send Audio and Video.

Yes: It can handle 1080P (BUT SO CAN COMPONENT!)

Yes: Monster make a good cable. But not worth the price's they ask for.

It's a better cable than component when sending digital video to a digital display. (note the part about a digital display IE LCD, DLP, LCoS, Plasma Ect...)

  6. They are for high-end cameras, DVD players and the like. They allow for uncompressed video and audio (meaning no quality loss) to travel through the cable.
