Who can i get some free legal advice from in nj?

i rented a room from a homeowner,have the reciept showing

i gave her a $500.00 security fee at the time of rental +rent.

now that i am relocating with my job,i am being told by her ,that

i can not get the security returned because she no longer work.

what can i do as far as actions taken?

  2. Did you break your lease? If so, the landlord can deduct any future rent owed per the lease from your deposit, as well as any advertising costs. The landlord must still account for the deposit per NJ landlord tenant laws.

    Your deposit should have nothing at all to do with her personal work situation.

    If the landlord fails to return the deposit or send the proper accounting per NJ landlord tenant laws, you can sue her in Small Claims court.
