  1. Batman holds the patent...

  2. try acme rocket boots they have always worked well for me in catching road runners - yours truly mr. w.coyote

  3. Don't listen to people who tell you something can't be done! They are just too heavily jaded by their own failures!

You said rocket boots, so I would suggest aeronautic engineering. If you decided to use some other method, something besides rockets (such as types of magnetism or something), you might want to look at other alternatives, including electrical or mechanical engineering...

I see some problems with the rocket boot idea, it seems like it would be difficult to create a balance between the massive amount of propulsion coming out of your feet, and the gravity pulling (mostly the top (above feet) part of) you down. You might want to learn some programming to deal with that.

    In short:

    - Mathematics

    - Physics

         - Fluid Dynamics

         - Mechanics of Solids

         - Thermodynamics

    - Engineering

         - Drafting & Technical Writing (will help you find funding)

Even if you don't follow through with this exact idea (though you probably should, people are rarely that brave), this is an excellent thing to act as a catalyst for a long-lasting love of the sciences. These things are possible, that is what is exciting!

EDIT: I would also recommend learning to solder and use a blowtorch. You can do these both at home for not very much money, and they help you get your ideas on firm ground. Good for prototyping, same with programming...
