- Find a large area that you can access, but that can be protected from the public.

- Mark off several small areas (about 2' x 2') within the large area using stakes and string.

- Record the growth (as a starting point) in each small area such the number of varieties of plants, how tall they are, and how full they are (write notes and take pictures).

- Spread the fertilizer.

- Monitor (and record) the growth within each area on a regular basis (perhaps once every three days).

- Analyze the records.
