  1. According to the State of Florida a yacht is any pleasure vessel 32 feet and larger.  In the state of Florida you have to have a License to sell any vessel larger than 32 feet if you are acting as a transaction broker.  That is called DUH! a Yacht Broker's license.  I have seen three or four dictionaries in the past that state that a yacht is any vessel that exists solely for the pleasure of the owner. In other words she doesn't earn her way.  A boat or a ship is a vessel that works and earns money for her owner.  The whole bit about a sail or not really no longer applies as most manufacturers actually name their vessels motoryachts as in Carver 506 Aft-Cabin Motoryacht.  So Either definition works.  I know this answers your question for you.

  2. A yacht can make ice.

  3. a yacht is way bigger ad usually it has a very large cabin with many rooms and rich people have them a boat is just something to drive and go fishing and things like that

  4. When you grab a bow or stern line from the dock and try to move the vessel you can tell the difference. You can move the boat but the yatch moves you.

  5. A yacht has a sail.

  6. All interesting answers here, so far, and once again Dave M has my interest. ...  but after many years of boating, commercial fishing & sailing ...   I have concluded that a yacht is any boat which has sufficient refrigeration to keep ICE CREAM frozen for more than a week while away from shore power.

  7. c**p answers.

A SAILBOAT has a Sail. A power boat can be a yacht.

Generically, all vessels that float are boats...even Submarines are boats.

Larger craft can be engaged in trade and commerce and are considered Ships.

Any boat with a high level fit and finish designed for personal and pleasure use...not commercial...is a Yacht, whether Power or Sail. Size is of no consequence...in sailing terms, a well fitted Alberg 22 or 29 or a Pacific Seacraft Flicka are all tidy little Yachts.

In this I am refering to Nautical terms for Yachts, not a cut off point for regulation by some moronic Government.

I know this answers your question better.
