Who can write a power of attorney?

Does a lawyer have to write a general power of attorney or can an individual write one and have witnesses etc? Does it have to be notarized?

  1. From a lawyer.  Nope, anyone can do it.  Find a good form, get it signed, witnesses and have it notarized.  Two witnesses are fine.  Some states require three witnesses for wills, but not power of attorneys.
