I live in a city with a public water and sewer system? We noticed recently that sewage was leaking out of one of the drains.....

The city should be in charge of cleaning sewer lines so this does not happen, correct?

  1. It depends on where the drain is located.  In most cities, the pipe from the house to the street is the responsibility of the home or building owner.  It does not become the cities problem until it gets to the street.

  2. If sewage was leaking out of the drain it means something is stopped up.  Sometimes these things happen and when they do it usually affects many people.  I feel the problem would be corrected as soon as the correct people found out about it.  Though the pipes are large sometimes things get clogged up and have to be cleaned out.

  3. gross ,get those people out there the EPA will burn them for that keep calling .........   wait a minuet???....is the drain in your home or in the street or where ,i assumed it was a main out in the street,if it's on your land it's yours from the street to the house................tom

  4. yes it's the city's problem if it's coming out of the manhole cover.

please be more specific describing "one of the drains".
