  2. Jerry Yang and David Filo, Electrical Engineering graduate students at Stanford University, named the company Yahoo.

    Filo and Yang said they selected the name because they liked the word's general definition, which comes from Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift: "rude, unsophisticated, uncouth." However, a swimming coach of the senior producer of Yahoo! said it was because the senior producer ran around the pool screaming "YAHOO!".
