  1. The Olympic anthem was composed by Spiros Samara, based on the words of Kostas Palama, for the Games of the I Olympiad in Athens in 1896. Latter other anthems were tried at different Olympiads but there always seem to be a problem and they have gone back to the anthem composed by Spiros Samara since 1958.
