Who could take responsibility for collecting rubbish from edges of motorways and A roads throughout England?

Highway Authorities have been known to trim the vegetation either side of highways but the non biodegradable litter thrown from cars keeps accumulating. Litter pickers are more common in the safer areas of towns than on the edges of motorways.

  1. Would it not be better for the mindless prats who throw the rubbish out of their cars to change their attitude.

This has to be the worse country for litter and it is getting worse. Since the smoking ban in pubs, etc the streets are now littered with cigarette ends which the prats who smoke just throw down. May be they should be fined £100 for every cigarette but they drop and £500 for every carton, plastic bag or other litter.

It would lower the tax burden for the rest of us.

  2. I have heard it said that Councils are now of the opinion that do not have a  legal duty to carry away the household Garbage . The Bin men where I live  (at least one of them ) says he is a recycling Officer . With Councils and bin Men having such attitudes ,they will have no interest to  clean up the sides of A roads . They will be more eager to put up Bus lanes and  Box Junctions with several cameras to find even a petty reason to extract a Fine in Penalty notices   from road users .

  3. I think the we in the UK should adopt Singapore style attitudes for trash being dumped everywhere. It should be an offence. It's the only way to stop it.

  4. No one should have to take responsibilty for picking up the rubbish. It is the responsibilty of the dirty monkeys that cant be bothered to take their rubbish home. They have no respect and take the easy way out and chuck it out the window. Shame on them.

  5. Young offenders, chavs with ASBO's and anyone given a Community Service Order. In the US and Canada there are huge fines for littering and even given the enormity of both countries, you just don't see litter along their highways. Labour have let in so many immigrants that there are few people left concerned about litter or community spririt.

  6. As most if not all of our motorways are owned by private companies, and they have their vans patrolling their stretch, then I believe it's up to them to keep their roads safe, clean and tidy.

  7. I'll do it if you like.

  8. Benny Benassi

  9. Take a tip from the Chinese - everybody helps to support the country, so in our case its all the unemployed and benefit seekers.
