  1. Someone who knows you, a previous landlord, your boss at work, a college or university tutor etc I think even your parents can write you one too, but just check that.

Its not a reference just something to assure the estate agents that your going to be a good tenant, well behaved, etc

  2. I'm a landlord.  When i call a reference , i ask "What are her hobbies?".  If they don't know, you shouldn't have included them as a reference. /

  3. A character reference from a family member, relative or friend is not worth the paper it is written on. You need to look for some professionally qualified person or established Business owner who has known you well for a couple of years or more.  Suitable people could be your School House Master/mistress, a Manager in a previous employers, a Minister of the Church, Lawyer, Doctor, Policeman etc.

On more than one ocassion in the days when i was hiring, i saw handwritten character references where it was fairly obvious that the signature was not in the same hand as the reference its-self.  Some friend had presumably said you write it and i will sign it.

  4. Hey Blondie

You can ask anyone who has known you for more than 12 months... be it a friend, a neighbour or the local shop keeper...

You can ask me, I am a registered business www.realisticwatches.com and I will send you a reference on headed paper

    Good Luck

  5. any professional person who has known you for a couple of years - could be a teacher, vicar, neighbour (employed or retired professional). GP, manager/supervisor etc. It could be a friend, but again, they need to be employed
