Who created the first camcorder and what year?

I need to know for a school project who created the first camcorder, what year, why, and what country.

the single unit video camera and tape recorder was invented by none other than Eastman Kodak in 1981. They were looking to replace 8 mm film for home movies. It used a new type of cassette called video8 which had metal tape that allowed for slower speed recording and thus more compact shape for 2 hour size. This was pre-CCD imager, after a couple of years Kodak gave up on video8, but market partner Sony liked it and when they got rights to the CCD in about 1984, turned it into a popular item.

all previous rigs a had separate camera connected by cable to a portable recorder.
