Who deserves to win the 2012 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship?
Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel has been deemed as the most favourite title contender in the 2012 Formula 1 season and appears to be unbeatable now after performing tremendously well in the last few races.
At present, he is standing at the top of the drivers’ rankings with 255 points. Moreover, he is 10 points ahead of his major opponent, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who had led the championship for quite a long time in this season.
It will be important to mention that the Milton Keynes based team struggled with their car’s design during the start of the season because of the changes in the regulations by FIA.
Nevertheless, they kept on making the essential advancement as the season progressed and successfully developed the most competent car for their veteran driver.
On the other hand, Alonso has performed remarkably well in the season so far even with the incompetent car and has impressed everyone with his amazing driving skills. However, he faced unfortunate retirements in a couple of grands prix due to which he lost
some crucial points in the championship fight.
However, the Spaniard didn’t feel upset over his retirements and kept on fighting for the title. He secured an incredible second podium finish after taking a start from 6th grid slot in the previous race.
Conversely, the German driver also delivered an inspiring performance in the preceding race as he secured third podium finish even after starting from the pit lane.
Even though, he is surely the strongest title contender now, but he insisted that they still need to keep on making the necessary step-ups in their car so as to enhance its pace in order to attain competitive results in the last two rounds of the ongoing
season.
Contrarily, after the last race, the 31-year-old said that they must extract more from their update package to compete with their opponent.
Nonetheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has said that they are working very hard in their factory at Maranello and are trying their best to come up stronger in the remaining two races of the current season.
Additionally, the president of the Italian squad, Luca di Montezemolo advised his team to push harder to provide a competent car to their star driver so that he can fight for the title.
Meanwhile, the team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner has said that they are not looking forward to just defend their lead in the championship and will remain aggressive in the remainder of the season.
Although the defending champion seems to be invincible at present, but there are few who believe that Alonso deserves to win the championship title more as he has worked harder for it.
“I feel like Fernando has deserved it throughout the year,” McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton was quoted by ESPNF1. “His team haven't made one mistake. He hasn't always been the fastest but he has been up there. He has driven like the champion he is
all year and I feel as though he is a three-time world champion.”
“Red Bull have been more up and down but they have still done a great job,” added the 2008 world champion.
It will be exciting to see how the top two contenders perform in the last two races and who wins the championship in the end.
