Lactobacilli casei scientific studies usually use the equivalent of 4 to 10 bottles a day. Taking too much of it gives you sugar calories more concentrated than found in soft-drinks. If one surfs thru technical info (e.g. http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?IA=IE2002000112&DISPLAY=DESC), it will be shown that taking antibiotics that kill gram positive bacteria will also kill the Lactobacilli, so wait till your entire course of anti-gram-positive antibiotic treatment is over before drinking.

  1. Who asked about lactobacilli casei ?

Not much use in the US

Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota was discovered by Japanese researcher Dr. Shirota in 1935. It has been used by the Japanese food company "Yakult Honsha" in commercial products in Japan since 1955. They now sell 26 million bottles of the fresh milk product "Yakult", which guarantees 6.5 billion cfu of the bacteria per 65 ml bottle. Sold in 17 countries, it is the world's largest functional brand1.

It has been shown to implant in the GI tract in human trials1. The lead author was N. Yuki of the Yakult Central Institute for Microbiological Research, Tokyo, Japan. The abstract from the article reads:

    Availability in the U.S.A.

There is a high overhead involved in manufacture and (refrigerated)distribution of a fresh milk probiotic. This has prevented popular overseas products from attempting to enter the American market, where there isn't a significant demand for fermented milk products(how many people buy Keifer?). For example, Valio's "Gefilus", with LGG, and Probi Ab's "ProViva", with Lp299v, have been very successful in northern and eastern Europe and Japan, where there is an established demand for such products.

However, As of 2000, the fresh milk product Yakult(with L.casei strain Shirota) is available in some parts of Southern California. This is because the product is available in Mexico, and cold distribution as far as southern California is possible.

  2. Unfortunately the general public or the person who asked determines the "final" answer.  Given the ideas of the average person asking questions in an "alternative medicine" section, I'd take any medical advice with a grain of salt.

  3. A Yahoo question is resolved either when the Asker chooses one answer as Best Answer or when the time determined by Yahoo has elapsed. I believe this is 3 days.

"Resolved badly" doesn't mean anything. You may not like the answer, but if the Asker has chosen it, that's the way it is.

  4. A question becomes "Resolved" in one of two ways: either the asker chooses one answer as the best, or the question goes "in voting" and a best answer is chosen by the Y!A community.

Often it only takes one vote to determine a best answer, and since those who answer can vote for themselves, "best answer" does not necessarily mean the answer is accurate.
