  1. PLEASE DONT LISTEN TO THAT PROGRAMME!

They have merged the 2 sisters of Henry (Margaret and Mary) together to create a new person, what is odd is that neither of them married a king of portugal, Margaret married James IV of Scotland and Mary and King of France.

Apparantly Mary made her husband go out riding and go jousting etc, when his physicians advised he rested, resulting in his early death, MARY then later married Charles Brandon, duke of Suffolk, and together they are the grandparents of Lady Jane Grey.

The real Margaret Tudor after her husband died after the battle of Flodden against England married twice more, once to a member of the powerful house of Douglas.

The ship the Mary Rose was named after MARY Tudor who doesnt even exist in the programme!

  2. There was only one Margaret Tudor. She was sister to Henry Vlll and the mother of James V of Scotland. She married James lV and no-one else.

I suspect that you are following the BBC travesty "The Tudors", made for an American market with more of an eye to marketing than to history. Princess Margaret Tudor is a wholly fictional character, portrayed by Gabrielle Anwar.

  3. King Henry VIII of England only had two sisters and neither of them married King of Portugal (I'm sure you got that idea from the new tv series "The Tudors").

The character of Henry's sister, called "Princess Margaret" in the series, is actually a composite of his two sisters: the life events of his youngest sister, Princess Mary Tudor, coupled with the name of his eldest sister, Margaret Tudor (to avoid confusion with Henry's daughter, Mary I of England).

Historically, Henry's sister Princess Mary first married the French King Louis XII. The union lasted approximately three months, until his death. Mary subsequently married Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. As The Tudors begins, Henry is already negotiating a peace treaty with Francis; the series' Princess Margaret thus marries the Portuguese king, who lives only a few days until she murders him in his sleep. By the time of the events of this series, the historical Brandon (who was already in his early 40s) and Princess Mary were long married with three children. Henry's eldest sister, Margaret Tudor, was actually married to King James IV of Scotland and became the grandmother of Mary, Queen of Scots.

  4. She did not marry the King of Portugal she married the King of Scotland.  This is made up by the people who wrote the Tudors and it worries me that a lot of people think it is accurate.

  5. I'm not sure she ever did. I think this is made up in 'The tudors'. I think she married a Scottish king, if my history serves me right.
