  1. Omar bin al khattab conquered it from Byzantine.

Jews were kicked out of Jerusalem and a couple of other cities, but were allowed to live eveywhere else in what is now Israel.

  2. What are you talking about? Jerusalem is a mixed city with Christians,Muslims and Jews. Alittle of everything to reflect the diversity of the region.

  3. The land of Israel passed through the ages in the hands of different nations. Jerusalem was part of the Roman Empire. It was captured by Alexander the Great, who fell to the Greeks, who fell to the Romans. The land of Israel passed through the ages in the hands of different nations. The Romans destroyed the Holy Temple, effectively exiling the Jews, though many did remain in the land of Israel. When the Eastern Roman Empire fell in 453, Israel became part of Jerusalem. Since Mohammed was born in a part of the Byzantine Empire, the religion of the Byzantines became Muslim. So the Muslims never really conquered it - it was just sort of luck.

During the Crusades, the Christians tried to reclaim Jerusalem from the hands of the "infidels" (interesting that Muslims now call them that), but were largely unsuccessful.

About the year 1500, the Byzantine Empire fell and became part of the newly formed Ottoman Empire, also of Muslim religion. However, the Jews and Muslims lived peacefully side by side. Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Great even built up the city and built the walls around it, which still exist as the boundaries to the Old City of Jerusalem.

After World War I, the Ottoman Empire was dissolved, and the British gained control over Israel, until 1948, when Israel fought for and gained its independence.

So the Muslims never really conquered Jerusalem.

  4. they left for 700 years, i think its kinda common sense that if there is open land people would go there and settle. however, those people were run out of their own lands had thier homes demolished so happy little isreal could be created for the jews and their wonderful money. why? well they were having some tough times and wanted a state all for themselves after ww2..

  5. I'm assuming you meant during the crusades. Jerusalem was part of the Byzantine empire at the time (essentially the empire that evolved out of the former eastern roman empire). The Byzantines were based at Constantinople (modern day Istanbul), and by state religion were 'christian' (differentiating between state religion and personal belief), with a significant jewish population, and probably arabic (although not arabic-muslim) population. The Byzantine empire was actually territorially eroded by Muslim fighters. Jerusalem was taken over 638AD, although if it was conquerd or peacefully surrendered depends on whom you talk to.

The fate of the jewish population... During the take over of the Byzantine empire, and points further west, there generally was a 'convert by the edge of the sword' going on during the regardless of religion or race, so most of those who did not die in the fighting would probably, atleast publicly, converted to Islam. Some of them probably continued their faith (jewish, christian, or other) in private while many just adapted. There was a protection tax of sorts applied to all non-arabs under the muslim rule, that became non-arab/non-muslims tax when they became slightly more lenient on non-muslims. Non-arabs and non-muslims have been tolerated to a greater or lesser degree since that initial invasion, depending on the politics and muslim clergy and clerical interpretation of the Koran of each 'empire' and administration that governed.

  6. After the Roman converted to Christianity Jews were not allowed to live in Jerusalem.

When the Muslims took over Jerusalem there was an agreement between the Catholic roman Church and the Muslims not to allow the Jews to live in Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

Catholics believed that Jews killed their God.

  7. the most important to me is that they live them peacefuly i mean by that palestenean they live strangerv in their land
