  1. Georgia. The day before the attack Georgian president in his negotiations with Russian government told that the conflict will be solved peacefully. Next day, when all world watched beginning of Olimpic games - attack began! Georgia started bombing Osetia with no word. Russia asked UN to solve the question. UN refused. Russia had no other choice.

  2. It's complicated.  Russia claims that a few people were killed when Georgia attacked rebels in the Georgian province of South Ossetia.  The Russians shouldn't have been there in the first place, though.

But it was the Russians who decided to make it into a war and intentionally attack Georgia.

  3. I think BILLY MAYS has a pretty good answer.

  4. Russia started the war.  They amassed troops on the Georgian border.  They invaded a sovereign democratic country.  Russia's claim to be protecting Russians is unfounded. Georgia was dealing with its militant separatist problem, separatists who are funding and supported by Russia.  Bottom-line a democracy has been attacked by a dictatorship. Russians are like the Chinese: forever spouting propaganda. We understand that you are proud Russians, but that doesn't change the fact that you started this war.  Also the death-toll is highly disputed. Russia first said 1500, 2000 and sometimes 3000; they also said Georgians were committing genocide. Georgia says that 175 civilians were killed during the fighting. Who knows what to believe, but Russia seems to be playing fast and loose with the numbers.  Regardless, Russian clearly started the war.
