I would tell you but I doubt you will accept the answer. Let's just say it's the same bunch who have pretty much controlled major events since around 1600.

Either the elected candidate is already "in the pocket" of these unseen power brokers or the elected candidate is immediately persuaded to change his ways. A close election can and has been altered. Ask JFK what happens if the president shows signs of rebellion and threatens to expose the evildoers.
