(just to let you all know...im posting this question in different sections to get more answers. )

Im doing a persuasive speech on "self defense should be taught in public schools" and i need all of your opinions on whether you agree or disagree.

and if you have any websites where i can find information on people who disagree with this...can you please list them??

thanks so much!

also i have gotten many answers saying that school should be focused on academics...In highschool however, you need a certain amount of credets for PE...so i would tie this self defense into PE.

  1. no, not more taxes!

  2. Just tell the kids what I tell my kids.   "Dont start any c**p, but you dang sure better not take any c**p either"  " If they start it, you finish it"  My kids know that if they have to defend themselves, I wont let the school paddle them.  Our school has corporal punishment, thank goodness.

  3. In view of the violent world we now all live in, where you are likely to be attacked and mugged anywhere by louts high on narcotics. I agree.with proposition. BUT It needs to be fully appreciated that the first rule and most important and primary principle in learning Judo is -  when you are involved in an argument and somebody threatens to be violent or challenges you to a fight, you should walk away. You should never be the aggressor but only use your judo skill for self defence i.e. only if somebody carries out violence against you, or to defend somebody else vulnerable against whom violence is being committed . Provided this overriding essential rule is properly understood and strictly adhered to, YES it would be appropriate for this to be taught at school..But students need to understand that learning Judo DOES NOT mean they are being trained to be a James  Bond or Rambo, but being trained to be a peace loving citizen.

  4. That is not part of a child's educational needs.

There aren't enough tax dollars to pay for the basics, you cannot keep adding extras.

  5. We don't have time with NCLB...sorry
