the study of cell biology has been inseperable from the evolution of the microscope...the first compond microscope was made by Robert Hooke(1665)...he examined thin slices of cork under his microscope and observed that the cork was made up of box like compartments which are termed as the cells(L.,cella--hollow space) by him....his work was published in his book"micrographia"...Antone V. Leeuwenhoek (1723) made a simple microscope and studied the structures of bacteria,protozoa spermatozoa,red blood cells and nuclei of red corpuscles of salmon blood....
