Who do I ask to get a copy of my high school transcript?

If I'm planning to take a year off right after graduating high school, and then going to a college after a year, who do I ask to get my high school transcript sent over to the college after a year gap of no education? Do I just buy myself a copy of my transcript right now, and fax it over to the colleges a year later when I do apply or does my high school have to send it to them directly to be considered legitimate? If the colleges don't mind/trust me enough to get the transcript directly from me, who should I contact now to obtain a copy of my high school transcript? Please help me. Thank you. And 10 points awarded to best answer!!

  1. Usually the college will want the transcript sent directly from the school to the college. All you will need to do is visit either your counseling office or main office of your high school and they'll have you fill out a request to have your transcript sent to the college.  There might be a fee, depending on what your high school's policy is, but it shouldn't be more than $5; it's usually only $1 or $2.

  2. Usually the Registrars Office handles this. Some Highschools have the transcript request form online for you to print and then send along with a $5.00 (or less) check/moneyorder. On the Transcript request form you list the address(es) of the school(s) you want them to send the copy to.  Its done this way because the college demands to receive a sealed envelope from your school (usually your school watermarks  the transcript for authentication purposes) so as to avoid potential meddling or forgery from the student.

You can do this at any point in your life when you decide to attend college.  Highschools keep these records forever.

    -Best of luck!

  3. Usually your guidance counselor would have it. I recommend getting in contact and also setting up a meeting with them. You should also ask about your schools policy on transcripts. Colleges do not accept a transcript from applicants so I recommend having the address for the schools you are applying to with you.
