Who do I call and how much would it cost to get an electrical hook up in my basement for an electric dryer?

It is currently set up for a gas dryer but I have an electric one. I am assuming it would be cheaper than buying a whole new dryer.

  1. It depends on where you live and what electricians charge per hour in the area.   Copper prices are very high, and the 30 amp wire is pretty expensive.   It also depends on how far from the panel it is, and whether the basement has been finished, (as it's much more labor-intensive to fish-in the wire behind the walls.   If its unfinished, it would probably run about $320+-, if it's finished $400 to 450. (including materials)

And I'm assuming it's in the basement, the 1st or 2nd floor would be more money.

OK, so being just 10 feet away from the panel, the cost will vary depending on whether you have circiut breakers, or a fuse panel, and if there is room to add two more circuits to either of them.

You mention breakers, if there's room to add a two-pole breaker, and since it's unfinished, I think it would be less than my 1st guestimates.  Maybe in the $180-250 range.

OH-and congrats, and best of luck with the baby!

  2. Probably would be less expensive.  The cost will be determined by the distance to the main electrical entrance  and circuit breaker panel and whether there is sufficient capacity in the equipment you have.  Call an electrician and ask for an estimate.
