  1. Call your local lumber yard (not Lowe's/Menards), but the hometown lumber yard. Ask for a good carpenter/handyman.

This carpenter can simply cut out a section of the jamb and puchase just a jamb side from the lumber yard. He may want to replace the entire one side of the jamb. He just needs to take the trim off both sides, run a sawzall down behind the jamb to cut the nails loose. Take the shims out and knock the side jamb over until the nails at the top head jamb come loose. Then cut nails in head jamb at the side joint.

Cut new side jamb leg to fit, shim and install it, replace trim, run a bead of paintable caulk down back of trim to wall. Now this is a small job so your going to have to pay what it's worth or you won't find anyone good to do it. Figure about $10 for a side jamb leg primed or natural. A good carpenter will have shims/nails with him/her. It probably will take less than 2 hours to do this. Expect to pay $ 75-$100 (cash) for labor. They should come to take a look at it before they go get the jamb side, just to make sure the jamb thickness is correct. Tops $125.00 for labor - gas is high and some trucks don't get 15 mpg.

  2. would be cheaper just to replace the door unit...door and frame,...a good handyman should be able to handle that...should cost u about $ 100.00 to: remove the door unit, install new unit, and then clean up and haul off all trash, .....if exterior door, the material would be about $ 150.00-$ 200.00 for steel door unit......if interior unit about $ 80.00....

  3. I agree with calling a handyman.  I would estimate that replacing the door would cost you about $300 to $400.  Lowe's and Home Depot charge about $240 for labor alone.  The door would be another $100 to $150.

  4. You first have to indicate if it's an interior or exterior door, this will affect the cost of placing it.  Depending on the extent of the damage (door leaf or door leaf and frame) it will cost you more as well.

Your local hardware store specifically Lowe's or Home Depot will arm you with the tool and technique and cost to complete this DIY.

But you can also enlist the service of a handyman or professional door installation services, which will cost you probably more than the door.

The cost to purchase that door will range from $60 to $150 for an interior door and about $250 to $550 for a metal cladding insulated core door.

Frames can be patch if damage isn't extensive, so ask if that is an option

  5.    its a little difficult.some times olly the damaged section can be replaced.a carpenter.or a lock smith.try the carpenter first.or if you,or someone you know.knows a handy man.good luck.be sure to get the price first.
