My actual mailbox for the US postal mail isn't opening. We have two keys for it and we've been trying everyday and its been 5 days and we dont know who to contact for this. And its one of those mailboxes where a lot are together in little boxes in your nieghborhood.

So if you know who we are supposed to call and anything to help us that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

  1. The Post Office used to make you go to the Hardware store and buy a replacement lock.  When your mail was delivered the carrier would allow you to insert it.  Last year, the Post Office started supplying the locks themselves. You have to go there and explain the situation.  Take some proof that you live there. /

  2. From U.S. Postal Service Domestic Mail Manual

    D042.9.7Apartment Mail Receptacles

    1. Apartment house mail receptacles must be approved by the USPS. The purchase, installation, maintenance, and replacement of mail receptacles, boxes, or parcel lockers are not the responsibility of the USPS except for neighborhood delivery and collection boxes and parcel lockers authorized by the USPS to be owned and maintained by the USPS. When apartment buildings are substantially renovated or remodeled to provide additional apartments, or a material change is made in the location of boxes, obsolete receptacles must be replaced by currently approved receptacles.

In other words the Building Management has to fix your lock
