  1. you do 6/5= x/135 and cross multiply

    the answer is 162

  2. Divide 6.5 into 135 ....

    generally Ratio means how many to how many ...

    so if the ratio is 2 and the number you are looking into is 10, then the ratio is 5 - in other words how many 2's can you find in 10 ....

    :)

    by the same token if you are told that the number of pieces in a cutlery drawer is 30, but 10 are knives, what is the ratio of other cultery to knives?   30 divide by 10 = 3 - therefore the ratio of other cutlery to knives is 3 = 1 in 3 pieces will be a knife - can also read 1:3, or for the one above 2:10...

    :)

  3. 1st method (Rule: the product of the means equals the product of the extremes):

    No. of boys (x):

    5x = 6(135)

    5x = 810

    x = 810/5

    x = 162

    The other way (simplification):

    = (6/[6 + 5])(135/[5/{6 + 5}])

    = (6/11)(135/[5/11])

    = (6/11)(135[11/5])

    = (6/11)([135/5][11/{5/5}])

    = (6/11)(27[11])

    = 6(27)

    = 162

    Answer: 162 boys

    Proof (ratio of boys to girls is 6:5):

    = 162 boys:135 girls

    = (162 boys/27):(135 girls/27)

    = 6:5

  4. this is easy you just cross multiply 6/5=x/135 5x=810 then divide x=162 boys in your sophmore class
