  2. For starters, potential customers.  Do you know if there is enough of a market to even justify opening the doors?

    Second, will you need financing?  If so, you'll probably need to hit up friends and family, because you've got to have a killer business plan and still some of your own money to get an SBA loan (Small Business Administration), or attract private investors, since traditional banks won't touch a start-up to loan money to.

    Third, you'll need to identify suppliers.  Whether you're making things from raw materials or reselling prefabricated items, you need to understand your costs.

    Then you've got to get all of your operational functions covered so you can open the doors.  If you don't have marketing or sales background, using a consultant can be very helpful.  Good luck.
