  1. they wnt to earn 10 points

  2. In some categories the issue is complicated and involves a lot of scientific detail, which probably encourages longer than average answers.  Some people might perceive an intelligent answer including lots of relevant data and links as snotty, but they're probably intended to be educational for the people who haven't taken the time to look up the facts for themselves.

I've see far more short snotty (name-calling, conspiracy-laden) answers than long ones.  They're often not relevant to the question.

  3. I agree. They p**s me off. Who truly wants to read a long answer?! I know I don't and especially a rude one or one that don't answer me. Sometimes I wish I could delete answers on my questions that don't help me.

  4. It's difficult.  You can start out with the best of intentions trying to answer someones simple question and end up having them want to argue with you about some basic fact, like the periodic table.  I don't want to argue with anyone about things like that, those arguments were over hundreds of years ago.  I've seen many other people give up in dismay, and say "you need to learn some chemistry if you don't understand my answer".  I haven't done that yet, but I am often left without a civil response.  I remember when I was a kid and I did that, my Dad would say "well then you don't know enough to be asking questions.  You need to go back and learn it from the beginning, and then see if you have any questions".  That's probably the right answer,  but I doubt it would be any better received.

Some people are just rude from the beginning, but I think in other cases it's a matter of trying the patience of the other person.  I agree, the questions should be kept short.  Some people like to extend them to a couple of pages by adding "details",  Usually it isn't details, its turning it into chat, which we aren't supposed to do.

  5. Don't worry, be happy.

I actually enjoy it.  I try to ask question that are deep and thoughtful, and then enjoy the amusement of watching people react emotionally and literally start typing an answer before they read the question.  I try to answer legitimate questions with legitimate answers, but if someone asks a question that is obviously looking for emotional support of their opinion, instead of logical answers, I can be a little flippant.  Hope this answer wasn't too long.

  6. i hear ya, it's a drag. too shay, pussycat :P

it's just a question... you asked,

and you received other people's two sense.

    what ever happened to kindness??

i wouldn't give it another thought. you're cool....

    take it easy....

  7. i feel the same. i dont understand why people do that. if they think the question is stupid or something like that then why do they answer it. Ugh! it really bothers me. Also i hate when people answer  a question they dont know the answer to. lol.

  8. I know what you mean!!

It's a shame, but those people are just plain immature,

ignorant, foolish and selfish of other peoples feelings.

  9. I have read questions and looked at answers that don't match the question.  As for the snotty answers, I believe that if someone is angry for any reason at all and they get into Yahoo Answers, they take their anger out on the questioner.  Yesterday, I answered someone's question and they wrote me an email and called me a f......g  *********, so I disabled email.  People can be so goofy, can't they?

  10. I think that, sometimes, when answers come across as snotty, the person is really just trying (and failing) to be funny.

I also think that the anonymity makes people feel comfortable about being mean-spirited.   The answers serve as an anonymous vent for their frustration and anger.

I am bothered less by snotty answers than by snotty questions.   I get frustrated when people put up a question where they are obviously looking for a particular (and often wrong) answer.

  11. Dear Pixie,

My teenagers tell sometimes, when I'm trying to explain and answer to them "Give me the microwave version mom." while waving their hands in exasperation in a sing-song manner. e If I didn't tell them the "why" of things, next question would be a "Why?, in the long sing-song manner.

I tell them everything can not be done and said in the "microwave version that they would like. Some things just take time, that even includes answers to questions.

As for people being rude when answering questions,...well, their are some people who are just ignorant (by the true definition of the word) and just don't know how to speak  politely to people. They are just ignorant!

If you take a Communication course in college, you'll learn there are many factors that contribute to miscommunication.(IE.: noise, prejudices, language barriers, inexperience of life situations, gender conditioning, religious barriers, socio-economic differences, physiological abnormalities, just to name a few)

I TRY to follow the Golden Rule, "Treat people the way you want to be treated." I also realize that everyone doesn't live that way. You just pray for those people and move on.

I hope this hasn't been too lenghthy for you, dear.

In the mean time, take care and God bless.
