Who do you call if you think you have been scammed by a used car dealer?

Just bought a used 2005 Acura TSX. However, I'm starting to think I was scammed because they told me it was an Acura Certified Pre-Owned vehicle despite that fact that it is not an Acura dealer. Answers to a question posted here are confirming my suspicions. Would I call the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint or just maybe get a lawyer?

  1. You can get a car certified even though they are not an exclusive dealership. Be careful, I promise the dealership does have a lawyer so if you aren't sure there is wrong doing don't make accusations. You could get burned.

  2. Welcome to the real World. Once a Honda dealer sold me a 89 Camry that promptly crapped on me in two months. Buying a used car is not an easy task. It requires a LOT of homework.

If you bought in less than 30 Days then you are eligible to return the car and get your money back. The exact time depends on each dealer.

Weather BBB will help you or not will depend on exact details. If he passed a Acura Certified car even when he was not a Acura dealer is fishy. But you are equally to blame. Hindsight is always 20-20. What'd you think you were doing ? That's the downside of not doing homework. I am not a Lawyer. But I think best a lawyer may do is get your money back. It depends on your circumstances..

  3. Hmmm... sounds fishy, but... it'll be a fight if you are ready to fight to prove it wasn't Acura Certified Pre-Owned... that doesn't sound right. Good luck...

  4. Acura Certified Pre-Owned vehicle

Every vehicle must pass stringent measures before it can become a Certified Pre-Owned Acura. Only well-maintained, late-model Acura vehicles are considered, and each one must pass a comprehensive 150-point inspection and a Vehicle History Report review. Virtually every mechanical system—from the engine to the door locks—is checked and serviced to meet precise specifications, and a thorough appearance inspection scrutinizes fit and finish—inside and out—to ensure that every vehicle upholds the luxury and sophistication of the Acura name. The Acura Dealership technicians also inspect all placements of the Vehicle Identification Number to ensure that the VIN plates match. In addition, the VIN is researched for open service campaigns.
