Personally I still think it's Ed Reed, but a couple of co-workers are trying to convince me that Troy Polamalu has surpassed him as the number one in that position.

  1. I think Ed Reed is definitely in the conversation.  I personally like Bob Sanders' game the most.

I think Polomalu(sp, don't care)  is good, but overrated.  He's a great runstopper, tackler, blitz guy.  He can't cover like Ed Reed.

I think Bob Sanders is a good mixture of the two extremes.

  2. Its not Polamalu. Reed is a way better defender. He can read routes extremely well as well as be used as a pass rusher on blitzes and stop the run. People NOTICE when Polamalu does something because of his distinct hair style so they remember his plays more than Ed Reeds'. Thats why they think he is better. He is a great defender, but Reed is way better than him.

  3. Clearly Bob Sanders!

  4. it's bob sanders when he's healthy...he hits harder than just about anyone and can do anything and everything, he's the most versatile safety in football by far

  5. Troy Polamalu or Bob Sanders as well as Ed Reed  have an argument to be considered the best.

No one, however, has done more in big games than Ed Reed. He comes up big when his team needs him to.

  6. Mike Brown

    when he's healthy

  7. Ed Reed is the best! Bob Sanders close but Ed Reed is the best.

Others at the top are Brian Dawkins, Rodney Harrison and Troy Polamalu. Mike Brown is right there with all these guys when healthy. Tanard Jackson is next in line!

  8. John Lynch or Troy Polamalu

  9. umm ME!

  10. Ed Reed is the best, hands down.

Both Polamalu and Sanders are good in run but horrible in coverage

  11. Sean Jones

  12. Darren Sharper, John Lynch, Ed Reed

  13. Polamalu is by far the most versatile safety.

  14. Sean Taylor...oh nevermind.

Tenard Jackson of the Bucs, will be the next best safety in the NFL. He was drafted last year in the 4th round by Bucs, never played safety in college, went the Bucs training camp last season and won the starting FS job as a rookie, the dude is a straight up heavy hitter.

Right now I would have the best safety in NFL is Troy Polomalu, he's pretty solid on the pass and the run defenses.

  15. polamalu is faster this is a very close one but im gonna have to go with ed reed

  16. DAWKINS

  17. Right now it's Troy Polamalu but for the best ever that I've seen I'd give a slight edge to Leroy Butler .

  18. John Lynch oh and guys seriously stop saying CBs he said SAFETY

  19. Hall is a CB

    1Reed

    2Sanders

  20. Ed Reed is and the late Sean Taylor (rest in peace)

  21. Charles Woodson

  22. deangelo hall!

  23. For the sake of being a Steeler fan, I'd argue Polamalu to the death...but I think he's currently on the PUP list, and last year he was pretty lackluster. If he can bring back some of the pizazz he had during the 05-06 season, he's definitely the top Safety in the league in my book.

  24. sorry bro...gotta stick with polamalu, look out this season.

  25. I would have to agree with you there.  Reed is a premier safety and he is one that has made a name for himself since being with the Ravens.  A lot of the younger safeties can learn some things from him.  He's been in the league since 2002 but over those short seasons he has done a tremendous job of making tackles, but more importantly making inteceptions and returning them for TD's.  Over his career Reed has 367 total tackles, 305 solo tackles, 4 sacks, 1 safety, 34 incerceptions 3 interceptions returned for a TD, but here is the shocking number, 880 yards over his career with intercetpions.  I would say that he is the kind of safety that not only makes plays by getting the turnovers but he runs down the field and he is not easily stopped.  I would say he is the best in the game right  now..

  26. Gibril Wilson

  27. Troy Polamalu

  28. i honestly think its a tie between ed reed who is great and champ bailey. he might b a cb i don't know but they r both GREAT players.

    P.S. just 2 tell u I'm a giants fan
