  1. Bobby Fischer

  2. A lot of people will say Bobby Fischer because that's the only person they know, but generally Garry Kasparov was, in his prime, considered to be the greatest chess player of all time.

Edit: Not necessarily a source because I stated the answer from memory, but wikipedia sums up top chess players fairly well, and it's an interesting article.

  3. paul morphy. look him up on line he lived in 1800s, but he often gave pawn and move odds and still won. no gm today could do that.

  4. bobby fischer, who died about a week ago, ironically at 64 years old, the same # of squares on a chess board!  there's a movie about chess playing, "Searching for Bobby Fischer" that's really interesting.  most people think this sounds really boring but it wasn't.  i highly recommend it.

  5. there is a real simple answer to this real simple question and i can only tell you this in 1 word. you ready,... ME

  6. Everyone will say Bobby Fischer and they may be right.  But I encourage you to Google search Susan, Judit, and Sophia Polgar, 3 sisters from Hungary who are competing and taking the chessworld by storm.  I honestly think that Susan Polgar is doing more for the game of chess than Fischer ever did.

  7. The greatest chess player of all time died about a month ago. Bobby Fischer.

  8. Vishwanatha Anand......INDIA

  9. Bobby Fisher!!!!   It's a no brainer

  10. The best is either Bobby Fischer,or Garry Kasparov.

    My favorite is Mikhail Tal.
