Apart from the obvious ones already said I would say Andrei Arshavin. Although I have only seen him play about three games, all of these were massive games and he was the difference between the sides on all occasions in my opinion. Arshavin shone against England in Moscow, looked a class apart in the UEFA Cup Final, and he destroyed an impressive Holland in the Euros this year.

How come when anyone asks this question nobody says a defender or keeper? I know these aren't the players blessed with the most talent when it comes to playing with the ball at their feet but they shoudn't be overlooked. Thats why my shout for one of the best players has to be Ricardo Carvalho. The reasons being that Chelsea, based on their defensive record, clearly have one of the tightest defences. He is also the best defender at Chelsea in my opinion (that includes Terry).

i have to agree that pele and maradona were fantastic players, but i am partial to platini and zidane (and to any one who wants to make a rude comment about me chosing zidane needs to remember what an incredible career he had, even if he went out on a down note)
