Should players voluntarily retire from international cricket , whilst stilll playing at county/state level, or should the decision be with the selecters to choose the best available national side?

Personnally I cant see a greater honour than playing for my country in something I enjoy , and would rather let a selection process decide if I was good enough.

  1. The most appropriate and dignified way is the players voluntarily retire on their own when their form is deteriorated instead of waiting for the selectors to drop them from the side.

  2. The players agility ability and desire for the game.

Any player should have to merit their place.  Age is only one factor in the equation.

  3. nope

    shouldnt happen and wont

  4. It should be players decision when to retire from International Cricket. If selectors think they are not good enough for playing international cricket then they have every right to drop them

  5. I think the players themselves are the best judge. Obviously if a player is not performing then the selectors have the last call. So we don't have to worry. I think selectors would be able to do a good job.

  6. Great players would retire when they are still in their peak, but we all know that sometimes they get a tap in their shoulders when selectors find them underform...

  7. due to fitness

  8. Thank God that doesn't happen, we would have some strange things going on! The player himself should do it, but I do know at times a country's board has had to  suggest certain players go, to make way for younger more able players.

  9. I don't think it really matters. If you are good enough and there is no one better to take your place, you should continue to be selected. If you don't want to be selected, then that's up to you.

However, I don't feel that players should be announcing: "I will retire at the end of the series/match/season, and expect to still be picked until they retire. Once you have said "I'm off" then the selectors should turn elsewhere.
