Good Question.

I don't think Ponting will step down any time soon.He still has got some four or five years in front of him as the captian of Australian team.

But the one who has been tipped to succeed Ponting is Michael Clarke. He is young but has got the qualities required for a good captain, as was seen in one of the 20-20 in which he was the captain.He can organize the team together and is also a great motivator. He got good tactics too.

Hussey having failed in his captiancy during the Chappel Hadlee series last year,it is Clarke who will most probably succeed Ponting.

i think james hopes might be a candidate if he manages to establish his place in the team. however clarke seems to have a great temperament and a very good cricketing brain...and i'd like to see australian cricket take a risk with a young inexperienced captain like sa did with Graeme smith. the team needs a young vibrant captain to take over especially after the disastrous odi series against india

Of course clarke coz he has got a good sense of cricket. he has proved very good for aus whenever ponting is not gaming. lee is no where in the zone

i think tht......... Clarke should become the captain (for Odi's and Tests) after Ponting.....................as he is the vice--captain at present.............

but lee should become the captain for T20's...........

because he is a gr8 bowler.............

T20 is a batsman's game..........

lee being a good bowler definitely knows how to bowl good and which bowler should be introduced at which time of the innings.................

I would give it to Mike Hussey.He is extremely talented & really I am sure would do a great job as skipper & also a great oppurtunity  for a aussie youngster to prove himself.Clarke is also a good choice but hussey is a better choice.I don't think lee will be a captain bcoz no one will make bowlers as captains.It happens very rarely.Bcoz a captain should lead from the front for his team & so for  a captain,batting is important.

Well ponting's not Stepping down/ retiring any time soon and i don't think Cricket Australia would sack him. But I would say that M.Clark would be the next skipper. He is still young, a good batsman but has plenty of expierance. He's a good fielder so there is no worry of him fielding in the wrong place. Lee is not a spring chicken any more and I have never like the Idea of a front line bowler captaining (he has to think about what to bowl,as well as who to bowl). As long as Clark has a strong character, he would be a great captain

I think clarke should be the next captain as he is someone who can instigate passion in the team through his charizma and has good cmradry with most of the other players in the team.
