It was Ovechkin. and I think that the NHL got it right. He is a fantastic player and did wonderful things for his team. Can you imagine what the Caps record would have been had they NOT had Ovechkin?

Ovechkin won the Hart and deserved to win. The Hart Trophy goes to the player deemed most valuable to his team, and Ovechkin single-handedly carried his team to the playoffs.

                                                                                                              

He did get (scarce) help from players like Semin, Backstrom, Green etc., but this kind of help was far less than the help Iginla received from Phaneuf, Regehr, Huselius, Kiprusoff etc., and it was also far less than the help Malkin received from Gonchar, Sykora, etc..          

                                                                                                         The Penguins would have reached the playoffs even if Malkin didn't go on his late season tear. The Flames, on the other hand, probably wouldn't have made it without Iginla, so that our argument must shift to the fact that Ovechkin had 15 more goals than Iginla and 14 more points overall.
