Who do you think will win more medals, China or the US?

And how do the quality of medals factor into the race? Currently, The US has two more medals, but China has 7 more gold. Should that be taken into consideration?

I personally believe that the United States will win more medals in the overall total medal count because the United States have many athletes that are mediocre and will make it to the podium in nearly every event. However, China has less athletes that are the best in the world and will win more gold, but not more medals.

  4. More overall medals will probably go to the US.  Gold medals, it'll probably be very close.

    but China is really good at the technical stuff

  6. I think overall Americans will win more medals...they won a lot more than China back in 2004.  However, I think China will win the most gold medals!  

    The Chinese excel in the gymnastics and diving, etc.  But we still have a lot of things Americans can win...basketball, track & field competitions, swimming, beach volleyball, etc..

    BUT the "winner" of the Olympics is the country that wins the most gold. So China will probably "win" the Olympic games. I have seen years in which a country with only 1 gold finished ahead of countries with 6 silvers and 10 bronzes just because what really matters is the gold medal count.

China will win in all categories - - judging will be tainted as it is in all Olympics since the modern re-establishment in 1896 at Athens - - the Chinese athletes are excellent and actually have a sense of group identity and solidarity versus the "personality cult" of individuals like Michael Phelps obsession of Americans from the Bush family downwards. . .

  11. US.  And only the total medal count matters.  Plus the host nation gets placed in all team events every Olympics.

  12. If the Chinese officials at the Olympics have anything to say about it, China will win both the total medal count and the highest number of gold medals.
