Who does Indian dances, yet doesn't know the language very well?

Question

People are surprised that I can do Indian solo dances without knowing Hindi well? I don't think you need to..you just need to know how to move your body to the music, you can copy the video, or know the basics. I've been making up Indian dances since I was little, yet can't speak Hindi fluently if my life depended on it.

Some people don't believe me and don't think this is possible? Aren't there are a lot of European women that dance beautifully to Indian songs, yet they don't know the language ? Lip singing is easy too. You don't need to know Hindi to lip sing to a bollywood song.

Here in America, Indians will judge you for not speaking the language or understanding it properly and assume that I must be some idiot who has no association with Indian culture...but oh well.

Does this make sense? What do you guys think?

Dance is a rythym of the body. I agree with you.

It would however help if you understand the words.It would help you emote better. Music and dance need not have cultural barriers.

Do not worry about what people say. I know it hurts. Best ignore and move on.

Dancing is so good both for the body and for mental health. Have fun!

music knows no language...it comes frm within...i cn very well understand ur pov...yes u cn dance on any song...evn if v dnt knw the language...dnt v swing to egyption or arabic song if the beats r gud...dancing freestyle on indian song is easy as they hav loads of peppy beats... unless u r being judged fr ur facial expressions etc in a dance show or sumthng...bt remember indian classical dances r an entirely diff scenario,here u hav to b particular abt ur body posture,facial expression n hand gestures....n it takes yrs of parctice fr u to make a performance on stage(if u really r serious abt it) ...as fr nw,dnt worry abt wat ppl say...dance away....happy foot tapping...

i used to be the same way...b4 i would punjabi dancing but i didnt exactly understand the wrding..i mean it was still fun and all and talent is talent no matter wat language it is in...and dancing is not so much language oriented..

look at selens she is so famous...she sang and did not even understand spanish well

like selena now i understand hindi and punjabi alot better....i think u will eventaully also.....look at katrina kaif she doesnt even kno hindi but acts right? n upen patel..o i could give o so many examples.....dino morea.........
