  1. You know, each time I look at a Calzaghe question there is the big Frank giving it large as usual with telling us what we will say when his fantasy g*y friend Calzaghe beats another old man, what it is with you francis?let people say the taffy is a tosser if they believe it(I do)cos nothing is gonna change people's minds until this muppet beats a real deal and not cowboys like Manfredo,Bika and has been s like Hopkins Eubank and soon to be fighting another over the hill Jones, whatever people think and say is Calzaghe and Warrens own fault for choosing the easy route all his life, personally p4p Id put him 15!

  2. I'm an American and i like Joe calzaghe i was happy that he beat hopkins. Believe me nobody in the states likes hopkins or mayweather

  3. Pavlik. Beating Jones would mean little at this stage.

On a side note, I would love to see him fight Carl Froch, but that'll never happen.

  4. would like him to meet mayweather @ middleweight,

mayweather will display to us all how overrated , little / big joe really is

  5. he would need to beat the other undefeated boxer Kelly Pavlik

  6. Well, there is Pavlik and Abraham at Middleweight, Chad Dawson, Antonio Tarver, Zsolt Erdei and Roy Jones at Light Heavy, no one left at Super Middle...so thats it really.

Calzaghe has a massive problem though! The Americans are going on about Pavlik as the new superstar. EXACTLY like they did with Jeff Lacy a couple of years ago!

However, if Calzaghe beats Pavlik, the Americans will simply say "oh well, he was a bum anyway!"..EXACTLY like they did when Calzaghe destroyed Lacy.

If Calzaghe beats Roy Jones or Antonio Tarver, the Americans will say its because they were old, EXACTLY like they did AFTER he beat Hopkins. (though they werent saying that before the fight)..and Calkzaghe is a SIMILAR AGE to Jones and Tarver!

If he beats Chad Dawson, he wont get much credit, Dawson is probably not as good as previous Calzaghe victims such as Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell and Sakio Bika, and he is certainly not as good as Eubank or Kessler.

Beating Arthur Abraham, Felix Sturm or Zsolt Erdei will get JC no credit at all, theyre not Americans, they could be brilliant fighters, but they fight in Europe, so in narrow minded US eyes, they simply dont count!

I think Calzaghe already IS no one pound for pound!

EDIT- Apart from beating Jermaine Taylor(who was a VERY unconvincing champ), what exactly has Pavlik done yet anyway? Apart from being that rare breed, a decent WHITE AMERICAN fighter.

  7. Someone with a pulse who still is in his best years, that will surely help'super Joe'how about Kelly Pavlic or Miranda or Taylor,Dawson,Johnson??but surely not a boxing geriatric Jones!Hammur, the Americans never said Lacy was the second Tyson, the British media and  boxing pundits like Macguigan did that to make Calzaghe look great to the Americans,Lacy was absolute garbage and held one version of an irrelevant cartoon division, get it right fella!!I believe it's only because of Britain's abysmal boxing history people are clinging on to this myth,in years to come you'll look back and see just how sad his style and opponents are,Hatton appeals more to me and at least he's gone over to the states TWICE to fight a true boxing genius in Mayweather and beat an all time great in Castillo!

  8. I would love him to fight Pavlik and win as that would surely secure him as no1 p4p but to be honest i would presume that if he beat Pavlik that 1000s of excuses would flood from everywhere saying that Pavlik was overated or that the ref cheated or one of the multitude of others that are used everytime Joe wins a fight. The reason there is no point him fighting Jones Jr who is a legend in everybodys eyes is because the excuses are already piled up waiting for the defeat so even if Joe wins he wont get any credit for it, everyone will just say he beat a washed up over the hill fighter just as everybody did with Hopkins and then Joe will have to look for somebody else to prove himself.

Also as somebody has mentioned if the Pacman keeps on winning then the No1 spot is his, especially if he keeps moving up the weights and fighting title holders, only if the pacman loses will the No1 spot be up for grabs.

Another thing that is amazing to me is all the people using the excuse about age for the Jones Jr fight on this question and many others on this site, they are forgetting Joe is 36 himself when Jones is 39, Pavlik is 26 so who is more evenly matched age wise, also im sick of people saying that Joe hasnt fought anybody when he has fought 8 world champs in his 21 defences, just because they arent all Americans who are on ESPN every week doesnt mean they wasnt champs. Americans are trying to rank Pavlik higher on a pound for pound list than Joe when the only fighter he has fought is Taylor and he nearly got knocked out by him as well. I am all for patriotism but come on get real its absolutely ridiculous.

In my opinion Pavlik is a great up and coming fighter but to be honest his style is made for Calzaghe and the sooner they get the fight on the better for me. I just hope Pavlik doesnt slide into obscurity like the last great upcoming fighter the new Tyson Jeff Lacy did.

  9. for calzaghe to be number 1 p4p, pacquiao will have to lose to diaz, and that leaves marquez.....for those who believe he beat pac man, he is still the current number 2, otherwise joe would be number 1.

  10. P4P is really overrated.  No one at 168 or 175 can beat Joe so that's all that should matter.  Manny Pacquiao is the Number one man in the sport now.  This should not effect or tarnish Joe's standing in boxing in any way.

He's the best in his division today.   No one should expect more.

  11. Calzaghe has to beat Roy Jones, Kelly Pavlik, and Chad Dawson.  The only reason I leave Tarver out is because he and Dawson will take care of each other, and I think Dawson comes away from that with the win.  The biggest problem is that each of those three opponents have a great shot at beating him. Roy is not what he used to be, not even close.  But he showed some flashes against Tito, so who knows? Maybe he can summon the old magic one more time. Pavlik will make him work for it.  Calzaghe doesnt have great power, and slaps a lot of his punches.  Pavlik hands are heavy, and he is crisp with each punch he throws. More importantly, all he needs is one, and it spells doom (Just ask Taylor about the right cross that started his downfall in the first fight).  Dawson, being a crafty southpaw with power, also poses a unique challenge.  Calzaghe is all about slickness and work rate; Dawson can neutralize that, and force him to fight.  But, if Calzaghe can win these three, then there should be no doubt who the humber one in the world is, regardless of what pacquiao does.

By the way, I dont like Jermain Taylor at all, but he beats Kessler 100 times out of 100.

  12. peter h your a d**k how can you say beating taylor twice is more than what calzaghe has done . kesseler would destroy taylor and any real boxing fan knows that pavlicks record dosent compare to calzaghes pavlick has two names on his record and thats it.

  13. his next opponent i agree he's a top boxer gr8 guy

  14. REJECT, DONT SPEAK FOR EVERYONE IN THE STATES, just because YOU dont like Hopkins or Mayweather, doesnt mean all people in the states dont, many people in the states love Mayweather and Hopkins, which is why they are such big box office draws, now as far as Calzaghe is concerned, he needs to fight Chad Dawson, Antonio Tarver, and Glen Johnson and he can retire. He doesn't need to fight all three, but he most definatley NEEDS to fight Chad Dawson and can choose from either Glen or Antonio for his final fight. I will give him credit as a great boxer if he convincingly, and I stress convincingly, beat them... no close split decisions like the HOPkins fight. because none of those guys are particularly legendary, but they are better than anyone Joe has faced yet...which is sad. The only way he gets a top p4p rating in my book is if he beats PAVLIK. He hasn't done anything in my view to even deserve a top 10 p4p spot, let alone number one, he hasn't proved himselt...at all...plain and simple..and until he does I'm going to say he sucks.

  15. Has to be one of the top 168 or 175 pound guys - everyone is clamoring for Pavlik but he's only a middleweight.  I'd like to see him against Johnson, Tarver, Haye or Taylor.

I still don't think there is any one win out there that puts him ahead of Cotto, Pac or Pavlik at this point though - Cotto and Pac clearly have far more impressive wins on their resumes, and Pavlik's two defeats of Taylor are more impressive than anything Calzaghe has done (remember Taylor twice beat Hopkins which is going to go down as one of Calzaghe's signature fights).

    To the guy below:

I said its more impressive to beat the guy who beat the guy (twice), who the h**l is/was Mikkel Kessler?  Oh yeah, thats right, the greatest 168 pounder in Denmark's history, shut up.  Jermaine Taylor was the middleweight champ, undefeated and had defended his title against Hopkins, Winky Wright and Cory Spinks - you name me 3 guys tougher to look good against; and while you're at it name me 3 guys Kessler beat before he fought Calzaghe?

And pound for pound is based on recent activity not your career record - and if you not putting Bronco McKart on the list of impressive Pavlik wins (he destroyed him actually) then you probably have never even heard of McKart who gave Wink Wright 3 extremely tough fights at 154, and was a mainstay at the weight for 10+ years.
