this year that they didn't have last year?

Just curious b/c I keep hearing how great they would be this year w/ a great quarterback. Did something else significantly change on their roster? I must be missing something.

Thanks!!

  1. Well, Jared Allen for one. You may want to pay attention to your competition. And no one is saying they have a "great quarterback" unless Favre should join them.

  2. They made a trade for Jared Allen who led the league in sacks last season.

  3. no significant changes, just an even easier division than the one they had...they did add jared allen which should make their pass defense better, and they already have a great run defense and a great running game...that's a recipe for success in and of itself, all they have to do is teach tarvaris jackson to take care of the football

  4. Well Jared Allen will help their pass rush, thus improving the pass defense. And Bernard Berrian gives them a downfield receiver that can catch the ball as opposed to Troy Williamson who was a downfield receiver that couldn't catch the ball.

They also still have Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor so the running game should be among the best in the league.

If Tarvaris Jackson can play average they should win some games.

  5. Not much really.  They traded for Allen from KC, a pass rusher.  And then they highly over paid for a so-so WR in Berrian.  Allen will help with their pass rush some but they still will be forced to blitz to get consistant pressure on QBs which means their secondary will once again get burned.  Minnesota was last in the league in pass D last year,  They might move up a spot or two with Allen there.

  6. Defense:

DE - Jared Allen - Pro Bowler last year who led the league in sacks in 14 games...

FS - Madieu Williams - Very solid safety from the Bengals who is definetely an upgrade over Dwight Smith...

S - Tyrell Johnson - Their 2nd round pick who is said by some to have been the best safety in the draft...

S - Michael Boulware - A very good depth signing... Special teams ace...

CB - Benny Sapp - Started a few games last year for the Kansas City Chiefs and is a special team stud...

DT - Fred Evans, Ellis Wyms & Letroy Guion - They needed to find someone to backup Pat Williams & Kevin Williams... Maybe they can find one out of this bunch

LB - Derrick Pope - Started a few games for the Dolphins last year... Did pretty well and will be a solid backup and yet another guy who will shine on the special teams

    ---

    Offense:

WR - Bernard Berrian - From the Chicago Bears who had almost 1000 yards receiving last year... Is a good deep threat and will be the Vikings #1 receiving target...

FB - Naufahu Tahi - From the Philadelphia Eagles... Tony Richardson was a great fullback but was really getting up there in years so they brought in a younger guy with some experience blocking for one of the better RBs in the NFL in Brian Westbrook...

QB - Gus Frerotte - A viable backup who can step up and do servicable incase Tarvaris Jackson gets injured...

HB - Maurice HIcks - Will basically just take Mewelde Moore's spot and will probably be the kick returner for them...

    ---

Those are all the ones that have any significance to them...

So with those additions and the fact that they are a young team for the most part and have a lot of guys that are entering their 2nd and third year... They expect big improvements from those individuals as well...

  7. traded ALOT for an amazing D-End, in Jared allen (lead league in sacks last year) BOTH corners (mainely winfeild) are healthy, signed madue williams at safety to play w/ sharper, signed Bernard berrian (super fast, very big deep threat kinda moss like)  plus they still have there best player in AP, and chester taylor is a great spell hb.  there line is the best in the league, and sidney rice at wr is gettin better, so there on track, just need jackson to improve

  8. Everything except a Descent QB, and a good Special Teams as well, Green Bay will win the North whether who is the starting QB.
