Taking a Southern Caribbean cruise leaving from San Juan (SJU) and would like to know if anyone has went on this cruise with Royal Caribbean and which airline they usually use for it? Would be leaving from ATL or Charlotte or Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP).

  1. We are also going on this cruise - on the Adventure of the Seas.  DO NOT book your flights through Royal Caribbean.  Book your own flights.  They will charge you almost double for the flights and they never get you non-stop flights.

  2. Thats a great cruise, I've done it twice. U just have to shop around for flights. I think we used american that yr

  3. I always book my own flights and get better choice of times and its cheaper.

  4. To me it sounds as though you might be booking air fare through the cruise line. If so, I would highly recommend you not do this. We just did this in March on a cruise that we took. First off, we did it because we were flying the same day of the cruise leaving and we wanted that extra protection that if the flights were delayed, etc that the ship couldn't leave with out us. Well, we had horrible seats first off. The flight from Philadelphia to Florida was ok, we had to change planes in Atlanta. Not to bad. Coming home was a different story. We got delayed leaving Miami by an hour and then we had to fly to Detroit (and this was ridiculous) and then back to Philadelphia. Made no sense to use but the airline (Northwest I think or maybe Southwest) that is where theire hub is. And because of the hour lost we had 17 minutes to run from gate 12 to gate 60 to make our connector. It was horrible. Never, never will we book through cruiseline. We are taking another next year and this time we are leaving a day early and flying to Florida and will be making our own arrangements.

    Good luck!

  5. You can use any airline and departure city that you want. Just shop Orbitz.com or Sidestep.com for the best available fare.  One thing to keep in mind is to not cut your time schedule too close.  If a flight is cancelled or postponed, you certainly don't want to miss your cruise.  Try to plan for arrival in your port city at least 6-8 hours in advance of the time the ship leaves.  And if you're leaving from San Juan, it might be worth arriving a day early since it's a beautiful city with much to see and do.
