  1. Global warming is an established fact: "The average global air temperature near the Earth's surface increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 years ending in 2005.[1]"

The most authoritative interpretation of the reason the earth is heating up comes from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  It produced a report in 2007 that summarizes the scientific research on this subject and concluded that,  "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-twentieth century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic (man-made) greenhouse gas concentrations"[1] via an enhanced greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.[2][3]

The IPCC report includes a "Summary for Policymakers," which is intended for non-scientists.  I highly recommend looking there for the evidence regarding global warming  as seen by the foremost scientists in the world.

The Wikipedia article is also a good source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warm...

The understanding that humans are causing global warming is as well established as any fact can be established by scientific research.  However, some people, mainly those backed by industries that produce greenhouse gases, deny this.

Claims that humans  do not cause global warming are a deliberate attempt to create an artificial controversy.  Similar efforts have been made by tobacco companies denying that smoking causes cancer and holocaust deniers.  The purpose of creating an artificial controversy is to win a political goal, not to contribute to a better understanding of the truth.

  2. I do believe in it.   Global warming has been determined to be happening, and increased CO2 would be some factor in this.    I think that some people do not want to believe in it because it might mean that their lifestyle might need to be restricted somewhat.   No more hummers, no more 10,000 sq. ft. or more mansions.    Less air conditioning, heaven forbid.
