  1. the word aboriginal doesn't just mean the race of people in Australia

    from dictionary.com

    2. original or earliest known; native; indigenous

as they were there already, the British dubbed them Aboriginies

  2. The British refered to all natives as Aborigines.

  3. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    (Redirected from Aborigines)

Look up aborigine in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.Aborigine (originated from Latin ab origine, meaning "from the origin or beginning") refers in a general sense to:

Indigenous peoples, Displaced peoples with a prior or historical ownership of a land, and who maintain (at least in part) their distinct traditions and association with the land, and are differentiated in some way from the surrounding populations and dominant nation-state culture and governance.

Additionally, several specific indigenous people are commonly referred to as "Aborigines" in English usage:

Indigenous Australians other than Torres Strait Islanders

Tasmanian Aborigines, the indigenous inhabitants of the island of Tasmania, Australia

Victorian Aborigines, the indigenous inhabitants of the state of Victoria, Australia

Taiwanese aborigines, the indigenous people of Taiwan

Aboriginal peoples in Canada, indigenous people recognized in the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982

  4. yes. British prisoners..another information..

Australia was a place for british prisoners.. So most of the so called aussie population are the descendants of those prisoners......

  5. The same English people who stole the country from its original inhabitants, using the falsehood of "terra nullius", meaning "no-one's land", when Captain Cook had met with, and written about them. Why, then, did he leave behind metal axes if there was no-one there: for the kangaroos to jump over?!!! Kamleshg needs to extract his head from his fundamental o*****e, and educate himself: only a small proportion of Australians can trace their ancestry back to convict rootstock; the vast majority are descended from free settlers. Incidentally, the Americans try to cover up the fact that, before the 1780's, the British transported their convicts to America, so their national celebration of Thanksgiving is actually based on a myth: that their nation was originally settled by the Puritans (archaeological discoveries prove it was the Norse: the Russians also covered up the history of their partial Norse origins).

  6. It's always the settlers who dub the indigenous people a certain name. Look at the Native Americans.. they're called Indians since the settlers thought they'd reached India..
