haha my horses LOVE watermelon, and since it grows in abundance where I live they get it pretty often in the summer. At my old farm they used to have a watermelon race...race your horse to one end, let your horse eat the chunk of watermelon, then rac back...first back wins! LOL An old bay Arabian named Sebo always won xD

So, who else feeds there horses watermelon as a special summer treat?

  1. i give them wartermelon, canolop skins apple skin and core, pritty much anything they they can eat that we dont

  2. I've got 4 horses, and only one of them likes watermelon.  I give it to him whenever I have a watermelon around, which is a few times a summer, or if the ones in my garden grow (it's not looking too good this year).

  3. we do and they slobber it up and fling it everywhere. They are white arabians so it gets red all on their face! So cute

  4. I do and all the horses at the barn loves it...especially the rinds.  Don't have to throw anything out..just give it to the horses!!

  5. I don't i didn't know ya could , also coz water melons are so blomin expensive in england. Yum but so nice

  6. I USED to feed the rinds to my old crew, but nowadays nobody likes it!  :(  I tried feeding it to my old Azteca and he wouldn't touch it and I've tried several times.

My old QH gelding decided he liked it one day when I walked past his stall with a big chunk of it for one of my nephews.  His head SNAKED out of the stall window and he grabbed the chunk and ran off to the corner of his stall and devoured it!

Of course the two younger horses loved it from the start, but I'd never thought about giving the old horse any...

We were all laughing because this horse didn't eat weird things!  If it wasn't a carrot or his grain, he didn't eat it.

  7. My horses will bust through the rind to eat the melon!

  8. I do! My horse is picky about the water he drinks so I give it to him to give him some water.

  9. Almost all the horses at my barn love it, but their  really funny about it.  The pony always takes one bite and then drops it in her stall and looks at me like, aren't you going to get that? My horse refuses to eat the rind, but he drops it outside of his stall once thats the only part left. The appaloosa is the only one who eats the whole thing.

  10. Yeah the animals here love them too! Especially our goats, but then again they'll eat anything.. all the scraps - goats are good keepers. We have a mummy goat who'll eat EVERYTHING, shes such a pig!

Watermelons are grown here in abundance too. I live in Turkey and there is not a day that goes by that we dont eat melon.

Its great to eat and is healthy too!

    Have a nice day! :-)

  11. lol mine too she loves it so much!!! it's her fav.

  12. I do...  But usually only the rind, because I like the watermelon part. =] hehe.

  13. My horses love the whole thing! They eat everything! And the seeds are not bad as long as your horse is getting regular acess to feed, water, and is getting excersised, because that will help the seeds move along the digestive track.

  14. i dooo they love it! :)

  15. I don't because of the seeds, which can cause enterolith.
