Question:

Who else feels that Sprint Cup drivers should stay out of the Nationwide Series?

I think that NASCAR needs to limit or dis-allow the Sprint Cup drivers from the Nationwide Series. These guys, while talented I feel are taking away from the future NASCAR drivers who are up and comming. Let the Sprint Drivers own a team in Nationwide but I feel they should focus more on their race on Sunday and leave the Saturday racing to the newer guys. Just an opinion. What are your thoughts.

  1. Let them race! They are out there having fun. Nationwide is not the college league of NASCAR... It is a series of it's own.

  2. So....the Nationwide drivers should never get the chance to race against the best of the best?

They should never be given the opportunity to learn from the best of the best?

They should never be given the opportunity to rise to the occasion?

They should be though so much less of that they have to be coddled like children?

The Cup guys in Nationwide -- are not a limitation for the Nationwide drivers but an opportunity to learn and to challenge themselves to be better.  If you only compete against the mediocre - how do you get better?

  3. OK - to the first answer.  Why must you specifically call out Jr.???  People like you are just as bad if not worse than what you all call the "Jr. Nation"!!!!

Is Jr. the ONLY Cup Driver out there??  NOT BY A LONG SHOT!  Has he EVER been the only Cup Driver out there??  NOT BY A LONG SHOT!

That being said, I don't have a problem with them racing necessarily.  However, I think they should be scored differently or something.  They should NOT be able to affect the drivers who race the entire series.  That is the only place I have a problem.

The best driver/car/team wins - whoever that may be.  But I don't think they should be keeping points from those who are there for the Championship.  That's what I have a problem with.

I guess what I don't know - answer me this.  Are the cars they are driving being driven by other drivers when the Cup guys are not driving them?  If they ARE on the track by another driver, then I guess they deserve whatever points they get in the Championship race.  If they aren't, then those points shouldn't count and the points should go to the Series driver/car/team.

My solution is this.  If the car isn't in the entire series, they get the money but no points.  Points are handed out to those in the entire series.  If the top 3 are Cup drivers and not teams in the entire series, the 4th, 5th and 6th place drivers who ARE in the entire series get the top 3 points.

LOL!!  Now, will that ever happen?  Of course not.  But it's how I think it would be fair!

    ***EDITED TO ADD***

Hey, Buckshot - RIGHT ON!  HA!  We are of the same mind...love it!  I figured I would be bashed and ridiculed for my "solution"...LOL!!  Nice to know I am not the only one to think that way  :-)

    ***EDITED TO ADD***

Jimmie - yes, actually you said EXACTLY that!  I guess I just read it wrong, since you didn't use punctuation or capitals like normal people.  You were saying "Spring Cup Junior" and using "Junior" like "2nd".  However, the way you wrote it made it look like you were calling out Jr.  And since Brad got 3rd and Jr. took 4th - he didn't take points from Brad!  But I do agree with your theory I guess.  But you need to admit - the way you wrote it, yes, you did say something about Jr.!

And now you have edited your answer to make it look like I am an idiot!  LOL!!  That is why I NEVER actually edit my answer, and just clarify or correct myself this way.  Because people have already read my response, and possibly responded.  If I change it, it makes the whole thing not make sense!  I don't know why Yahoo allows us to edit a response but not the question!  The answers should be the same way - you can add but not change!

Rob - you said how many of the Cup guys would run the FULL SERIES if there were no points - you are right, zero!  But that isn't what I in particular said.  IF they are in fact running the entire series - every single week, whether it be the driver or the car - then let the chips fall where they may.  What I meant is those drivers/cars/teams that ONLY run in certain races.  THOSE drivers/cars/teams should not get any points.  Money yes, practice on the track, yes.  Points, no!  Their points go to the next highest driver - whether that be a Cup driver who is in the entire series or a Nationwide Only driver.  Hope that clarifies at least what I meant!

  4. It would be even nicer if, their were more nationwide series, drivers! I'm sure their are alot of ARCA SERIES drivers that would love., to have a piece of the pie !!

But the $$$ it cost, to compete now days???.... It's Nearly impossible !!!

  5. they should be limited to no more than 20 races a year if your a ful time  cup driver  that way they up and coming young guys get the seat time they need

  6. I think that if Cup drivers can't be eliminated from the Nationwide and Truck series altogether, they shouldn't be allowed to participate in more that a quarter of the schedule. The Nationwide and Truck series are in a way proving grounds for future Cup stars and the full time racers can't shine when Cup guys with more experience beat them every week.

  7. I watch the Nationwide series because the cup drivers are in it.  I do understand your point, but if the young drivers are racing against veteran cup drivers, I think it would help sharpen their driving skills.

  8. I don't personally have anything against it, it lets the up-and-comers have a taste of the competition.  What I have a problem with is when a cup driver, using his cup team comes in and dominates the points.  We saw it with Harvick, and then with Edwards.  The last two years when they won the championship, by mid season, they were ahead of the other drivers by 500 points or something.  This makes it tough for the series regulars to shine through.  I don't think the cup drivers should get points for racing Nationwide.  I don't see it changing though, Edwards, Hamlin and Harvick sell tickets, and that's ultimately what NASCAR cares about.

  9. i  agree with you. i think that it is unfair, thats like letting NFL players join a college team and play on saturdays just because they love the game. it is ok with me if it is a driver without a full time ride or needs the experience at a new track but once a driver has reached a certain level he should give the others a chance.another problem is there are so many race car drivers today. the popularity of auto racing has come a long way since the old days and these people need somewhere to race and want to move up from arca, hooters, etc.

  10. I agree with several of the answers here.

Cup guys running in the Nationwide series is good for several reasons. It gives the Nationwide guys a chance to compete against the top guns of the NSCS, and that experience is valuable.

It also sells tickets, which the sport needs.

I don't think Sprint Cup drivers should be able to run for the Nationwide (or truck) points championship though. A Nationwide only regular deserves the title.

  11. I just think they should limit the number of Cup drivers who run in it..After each race they should put all their Numbers in a helmet and draw out 8 names (most of the time there can be 14-19 Cup guys in these races) and those 8 can run.. They can let the winner in Victory Lane draw the numbers for the next race. I get so sick of Cup guys always winning, they have their own races, let these guys have a chance..

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  12. It has it's good points and bad points. A more experienced cup driver can let an up-and-coming Nationwide "team" know where they stand as a team and their cars. They can then take that info and apply it to an up-and-coming "driver" to mentor him into a cup driver.

There needs to be limited amount of races that a Nationwide team can have a cup driver sit in in a season. I think 5 would be plenty and even make the Nationwide series more of a challenge.

  13. they need to dis allow! its called the NATIONWIDE series right?not the sprint cup series junior   corundog i meant like the little sprint cup series not dale jr
