  1. I know that there's not a whole lot that we can do about it, so I'm going to try and enjoy the rest of the time I have left here on earth to the best of my ability. But I agree that things look very grim, and I really don't see much of turn for the better, especially with the type of people that are running the world.

  2. As a senior citizen I have been thru a great many crises in my life.  The looming problems in our nation and the world have the potential to make us worry.  Yet, God has been my refuge and strength for all these years.......He has helped me thru many crises.  I know He will continue to do so.  God is faithful.  He takes care of His children.  I would encourage you to get a Bible and read it, and find out just how God helps us........and then ask Him into your heart and life......he loves you dearly.

  3. No, it doesn't depress me, actually.

I see it as an opportunity.

First, realize that the economy goes in cycles.  It always recovers ... sometimes it takes longer than others.  Hard to say where we'll be in 10 years, but for now, while the economy is going down (and gas, groceries, etc., are going UP!), it's a good time to develop better habits.

By making a lot of small changes (to save money), you can get into the habit of living more economically.  At first, it may seem like you're sacrificing, but after awhile, it becomes routine.  You'll find out that you really CAN do without many "luxuries."

An added bonus is that plenty of the more economical choices are also the more environmentally-friendly choices.

    A few examples:

I can't afford to take a vacation this summer, but I CAN afford a few gallons of paint and a few trees to plant.  The $$$-outlay isn't much ... most of the effort is physical work (free!)  And the satisfaction is HUGE!

I've already gotten into the habit of driving as little as possible ... I try to run all my errands one day a week, do all the grocery-shopping just once a week, keep unnecessary trips to a minimum.  I've just bought a new, small car ... so combined with my driving less, I stand to save a very substantial amount of money on gas!

When I grocery-shop, I buy as many store-brand (as opposed to name-brand) items as I can.  Usually they are just as good, and often better than, name-brand.

I don't need to drive 30 miles for a $70 haircut!  There's a place in town 3 miles away that gives a good haircut for $15.

Area farmers' markets are a great place to buy seasonal produce.  Cheaper, and locally-grown.  I save money AND my money stays where I live.  And farmers' markets are a great way to spend a morning.

Ask, before you buy something ... Do I really NEED this?  Do I really WANT this?  If so, OK.  If not ... well, then ... save your money for something you really DO need or want.

Those are just a few.  Others ... shorter showers, adjusting the thermostat, running the appliances only when necessary, conserving gas, electricity, water ... all of those measures save money.  And all are easy to do.  Just takes commitment and practice.  Before long it's habit, and you won't feel like you're missing anything!

Cut little corners in small ways ... you'll ride it out just fine.

  4. Yes, and I'm sure that if people are honest they would say yes. I worry about my family as well. It is very depressing!

JSR*558 ~ sounds like you are one of the lucky ones! Everything that you described is what I've been doing forever anyway.

  5. nope, thats where u have to be smart and think of wat ppl will lack in the future and be an entrepreneur now and make some cool money.....

  6. I was worrying about it, then I just figured it was going to either happen or not happen, and me spending my time stressing over it wouldn't change the fact. My family is just doing the best we can, and God will take care of the rest.
