Who else is going to challenge Red Bull Racing and McLaren in the 2011 Formula 1 season?
The 2011 Formula 1 season since the beginning has been more about Red Bull Racing as the team has been dominating almost each race with a perfect pole position scoring record. It seems that they are the favourites of the season but after looking at the racing
pace of McLaren, one has to admit that the season is far from over yet as there are still 12 races remaining and anything can happen.
Sebastian Vettel has scored 5 race wins in 7 races so far and is leading the season with 161 points which is 60 points more than Jenson Button who is his nearest rival. 60 points in Formula 1 means two race wins and a 5th place finish while the
other person scores pointless finishes that is either a retirement or a finish below the 10th place.
Lewis Hamilton on the other hand is in 4th place with 85 points since he finished pointless at the last Canadian Grand Prix while Mark Webber has moved up to 3rd place with 94 points.
This clearly means that the championship is pretty much between McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team according to the stats as McLaren have scored two race wins this year while the rest of the teams have not scored a single win yet.
In the constructors’ standings, Red Bull are leading with 255 points which makes them 69 points ahead of McLaren who are in second place. However, one has to admit that with 12 races still left in the season, Red Bull Racing are still catchable.
Besides these two teams, the only team that has the potential to beat either of these teams is Ferrari as they have scored two podiums with the help of Fernando Alonso while the rest of the teams are struggling to perform.
Nevertheless, there is one more team which has scored some pretty good results including two podiums and that is Lotus Renault GP. Both of its drivers Vitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld scored a podium each at the first two races of the season but since then,
the team’s performance has deteriorated massively.
Ferrari have been improving since the past couple of races and each time, they get even closer to the pace of McLaren and Red Bull Racing. Fernando Alonso has been a major asset for Ferrari as he has been scoring some good points for the team consistently
with the exception of the last race in Montreal where the Spaniard had to retire.
Other than Renault and Ferrari, rest of the teams are way down the order in terms of points and pace.
Ferrari have scored some good qualifying results since the past couple of races and as it is expected, the Blown Diffuser is going to be banned starting from the British Grand Prix. It is going to be a major blow to Red Bull Racing after which Ferrari and
McLaren would be hoping of challenging the reigning world champions quite actively during the qualifying sessions as well.
