Who else is pissed off? Williams sisters will meet in the Quarters and not Finals!?

This just pisses me off big time!!! But I fully expected the USTA to do this c**p!!! Venus and Serena has finally put in the hard work to elevate their rankings to a respectful number for the first time in a number of years, and once again the stupid US Open draw places them to meet each other in the Quarters. In recent years the US Open draw has always found a way to ensure that the sisters play each other in earlier than expected rounds. Of course their low rankings at the time did not help the matter. But for the first time in a very long while, both sisters are ranked in the top ten, and these people are going to force them to play in the Quarters, rather than the finals!!! I am soo pissed off right now about this.

The other three slams this year had the Williams sisters meeting only in the finals, and it made sense because all year long they have been in the top 10. I just don't understand the US Open rationale for this. Have they not been paying attention to what has been happening at the US Open Ladies final for the past decade? The last Ladies Final that went to a third set, happened in 1995 when Graf defeated Seles. For the past 12 years, every other final has been won in straight sets and there have not been a competitive Ladies final in years. Considering how well both sisters played against each other at Wimbledon, I fully expected that they would have a chance to meet each other in the finals at the US Open. Now the draw does not make this possible!!! I guess once again we are in for another lack-luster Women’s final that will probably do poorly in the prime time ratings!!!

What do you guys think? Are you as pissed off by the draw as I am?

I don't mind as much as if it was Wimbledon. They both do well on grass, but not so well at the US open.

It was so great to see them face off at the Wimbledon finals, and if they'd been placed in opposite draws they would'v definitely created another great final! This is sad, but we can still look forward to more great tennis! All the girls are in SUPER form! I'm waiting to see who wins the title this time. Besides one of the William sisters, Ivanovic, Safina, Dementieva, Jankovic - They're all contenders!

First, thats if they even get to that point.

Unfortunately they are in same side of the draw, but the way they are playing, its not a given they will even meet in the quarters, let alone both reach the quarters.  Venus first round opponent, first round no less, is Stossur. I mean wtf? Stossur is perhaps a 3rd-4th rounf opponent but I suppose to her being out with injuries her ranking slipt and so forth but still. Not an easy win for Venus, especially with that unreliable forehand and the power from Stossur. Serena doesnt have an easy time getting to quarters either. Along with the fact she isnt moving as well as she is known to.  Much too much talent out there these days, and sadly, being a fan of The Williams Sisters, I dont see them doing too well at The Open.

While I understand , sort of, of what you are saying, you cant play around with the draw to arrange matches and for ratings. Again, its not a given V & S, will make it far either. With players like Safina, Dementieva, and other Russians playing extremely well, there are those that canmake noise, such as Wozniacki, Szvay, Radwanska, Azarenka. Not to menton the quality of play Ivanovic could bring if ever over her nerves and wrist as yet, as well as Jankovic. A very deep field in the womens game these days,and nothing comes easy for any of them.

As you point out, the other slams had them meeting in the finals if at all.    If they don't like it, they need to get their rankings higher.   The quarters are the top 8, so it is pretty much 50-50 whether or not they would meet before the finals, unless they are ranked 1 and 2.   Get over it.

Well, they played well at Wimbledon but that's been the rare exception for them, not the rule.  Their head-to-head matches have usually been stinkers - for whatever reason they really haven't played well against each other.

I agree an all-Williams final (or even semis) would greatly boost the ratings, but who knows? Ivanovic and Jankovic are the #1 and #2 seeds, so it's more important to keep them apart.

Of course this probably means whichever Williams sister reaches the final will be pissed-off and annihilate their opponent :)

tennis ken - am not a big fan of either williams, maybe venus better.

i just feel these two are the most talented ball striker, but lack conviction. they know they have above 50% winning chance every time they step on the court. i don't think their mind is in it tho, at least been a long time. they are just milking it now, no commitment as i see it. sorry, i am not upset.

I am just as upset as you are. It's the US Open, their home slam, so of the four slams, this should be the one where a potential clash in the final between Venus and Serena should take place.

I AM! To me as a fan any tournament I watch without the Williams sisters is completely boring and I have no desire to keep watching. I had hoped and prayed they'd be on opposite halves of the draw like they have been on the other three freaking grandslams and they kick butt all the way to the finals like they did at Wimbledon and meet in the finals and have a really good match. I'm pissed, like seriously pissed LOL. I realize that both of them have made ranking changes since the year began but this is just crazy. Whatever, I am always happy to watch them play each other because I enjoy the fine tennis they bring out of one another and I hope one of them wins the US Open and they win the doubles together and that'll be a slap to the USTA's face for their stupid draw! LOL :)

I do not like it either.  And probably the Williams sisters too.  But that is o.k.   Maybe when one of them loses before they meet, the other will play lackluster and bow out also.  Then they will go about their own business and leave the US Open without any one watching on television (especially me).  

But, then again, maybe this will be a chance for Serena to get Venus back for winning Wimbledon.  Maybe she will be her outright and go on to win US Open.

Yes I am---they played a great wimbledon final! They are the top American women players. What is the US Open people thinking!!!

Elena is unpredictable at best

Jelena is an Amelia clone---she will win a grand slam when she is 26 or  27, if then.

Dinara has shown that on the big stage---she folds.

Svetlana is as unpredictable as Elena

Given this, I have skipped the women's final before and anticipate doing again it  unless someone shows me the "right stuff."
