  1. This happened in Ireland throughout the 70s and 80s.

    The largest group of immigrants living here are UK born, sign of the times. I think its sad what's happening in the UK, I met many British ex pats in Australia who left not just because of the economy but also because of various social problems.


  2. I plan on emigrating next year. I don't think the UK will miss out on much in terms of brain power though...

  3. My 16 year old son is determined to leave the UK, as soon as he gets his bachelor degree. He hates everything about the country and what it's become. I agree with him, it's almost become an echo of what Wiemar Germany was like in the 1930s.

  4. One serious problem which is not being addressed is ageism. I know of cases where highly qualified people would be happy to return to the UK after a few years abroad, but every time they apply for an opening they are found to be "too senior". One becomes too "senior" from thirty-something onwards. Until employers are prepared to pay reasonable salaries for quality staff, the brain drain is going to continue and people who have enjoyed the experience of living away from the UK will find themselves obliged to remain abroad.
